PRODUCT QUESTIONS

What is keepsake jewelry?

Keepsake jewelry is a personalized, one of a kind, handmade piece of jewelry that incorporates your very own unique materials!

Materials from you can be: breastmilk, formula, dried umbilical cord, encapsulated or dehydrated placenta, cremation ashes, lock of hair, pet hair or fur. We can even make a keepsake stone with a piece of fabric from a baby carrier, or a swatch from a loved one's favorite piece of clothing.

Can I use old or expired breastmilk?

Absolutely! Since it is not for consumption, we can use your expired breastmilk as long as it is not moldy. Whether it's freshly expressed, frozen, chilled, refrigerated, etc - as long as there are no molds, we're fine.

How do I take care of my keepsake jewelry?

To get the best out of your pieces, we recommend following these instructions:

Do NOT submerge in water. The preserved breastmilk/DNA portion is not waterproof, only water resistant. Avoid wearing in saunas, spas, saltwater, swimming pools and similar water-based locations.

Remove before bedtime, bathing, showering, manual activities that use tools and machinery, water & physical activities.

Avoid exposure to harsh & prolonged periods of sunlight which can cause it to discolor or soften.

Avoid exposure to harsh chemicals and cleaning products. This may include perfume, oils, hairspray, cleaning products, chlorine, hand sanitizer, nail polish remover and salt water. When in doubt, remove your pieces.

Store away from natural light, heat sources, and in a protective box or tarnish - resistant pouch. Do not store in the bathroom or areas of high moisture.

A silver or gold polishing cloth may be used on the metal portions of your piece. Do not clean your DNA stone with polishing cloth. The DNA stone can be cleaned with a soft plain cloth.

Can you make my item exactly like the picture on the website/Instagram? Help! The piece I received does not look like the pictures on the website.

Every piece is unique. Your materials are as unique as you are – the color, composition, texture and other properties are all different; and as such all pictures on the website are provided to give you an idea of the possibilities; but we cannot guarantee that it will look identical to any of the pictures on the website or that we can execute your design request exactly as you imagined it. We will absolutely try our best to achieve your creative vision, though!

What is gold-filled jewelry? Is it the same as gold-plated jewelry?

Gold-filled jewelry is a thicker layer of solid gold on top of other metals. The layer in gold-filled jewelry is thicker than gold-plated and lasts longer.

Can I use different batches of milk from more than one baby?

Yes. You can pre-mix them before
sending it over or you can send two different milks separately. Be sure to note in your order whether you wish to combine them or use them in separate slots for keepsake stones. Please do not send notes or requests with your package! Remember that it will go through the shipping process, and your note could get wet and fade.

I see imperfections or flaws.

Please note that the process ofpreserving materials and turning them into keepsake jewelry may sometimes cause small bubbles, but we will try our best to avoid them. We cannot alter the nature of your materials and hence, it will take the color and texture that you sent them. Breastmilk stones may sometimes have small solid flecks of white, this is natural to preserved breastmilk.

MATERIALS: Amounts and Packaging

Where will I send my materials?

You will receive detailed instructions upon placing your order, but in the meantime the amounts you need and the method of packaging them for shipping are listed below. All
responsibility for shipping materials lies with the clients.

How much breastmilk do you need and how do I package it?

Breastmilk – The minimum we need is 15ml (equivalent to half
an ounce OR one tablespoon). This can make 3-5 pieces of jewelry depending on the size of pieces you order and the tone and color of your milk, whether you ask for add-ons or not. Please do not send all you have left. If you have less than 15ml please contact us at hello@atlassianjewelry.com
and we can figure something out. Do not send more than 15 ml. Anything more than 15ml will be discarded. We will hold on to your preserved breastmilk for one year in case you wish to order more pieces.

Place the breastmilk (fresh, expired, frozen, defrosted - any condition is fine, as long as it is not moldy) in a breastmilk storage bag and double bag it. The breastmilk storage bags are more reliable as they are intended for this purpose and we find that there is less leakage with them. You can use regular zip top plastic bag, but triple bag it just to be sure.

Domestic Orders: the milk does not need to be frozen or sent with ice.

International Orders: We recommend that you freeze the milk before packaging and sending out, to account for delays in transit.

How much ashes do you need and how do I package it?

¼ tsp is enough for 1-3 pieces depending on the size. Place in a small zip top bag or plastic pot. We will send back the amount that we do not use with your finished keepsake jewelry but please do not send all you have left.

How much hair or fur do you need and how do I package it?

The ideal amount is at least the length and size of a toothpick. If you have less than that please contact us at hello@atlassianjewelry.com
and we can figure something out. Place in between at least two layers of tissue paper or cotton rounds (better) and place in an envelope. Do not tape the hair
or use sticky notes as these will render the hair unusable. Make sure that you do not fold over the hair to avoid creases. We will only use as much as needed
to achieve the best look possible for the piece that you ordered. We will send back the amount that we do not use with your finished keepsake jewelry but please do not send all you have left.

How much umbilical cord do you need and how do I package it?

Send fully dried umbilical cord at least the size of an orange seed. Make sure that the stump has fully air dried (give at least four weeks from the time it fell off). Place in between at least two layers of tissue paper or cotton rounds (better) and place in an envelope. We will send back the amount that we do not use with your finished keepsake jewelry but please do not send all you have left.

How much placenta do you need and how do I package it?

We are only able to work with encapsulated placenta that has not been treated with formaldehyde. (The chemicals mess with the preservation and may prevent the process!)

Do not send fresh placenta. Please send one capsule. Place in between at least two layers of tissue paper or cotton rounds (better) and place in an envelope. We will send back the
amount that we do not use with your finished keepsake jewelry but please do not send all you have left.

How long do I have to send my materials?

We recommend that you send your materials as soon as you can but you have six months from the time you placed the order to ship the materials to us. After six months, we cannot guarantee that the setting you selected is still available so best to send as soon as you are able!

SHIPPING

How long does an order take?

Orders are estimated to ship in 12-16 weeks from the time we receive your materials. In some very rare cases it might take longer due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control. If this is the case, we will notify you as soon as possible if your order is affected.

Why does it take so long?

Every piece of keepsake jewelry is handmade from start to finish. The silver and gold mountings are made to order. We take time to preserve your breastmilk, lovingly and professionally create your keepsake and follow a strict production process to ensure the integrity of your piece.

Do I have to send my materials to you with a tracking number?

This is not necessary, but we find that some clients prefer the peace of mind that comes along with being able to track their materials and knowing when it is received. Please choose the mode of shipment that makes most sense to you!

Is it legal to ship breastmilk?

Within United States, there are no restrictions or special rules on shipping breastmilk.

(International Clients) From outside of the US going into US: Shipping milk of animal origin such as goat or cow's milk is prohibited. However, human milk can be shipped. You can include a note with your breastmilk that says "Human Origin." On the customs form, declare the contents as "jewelry making material".

I moved! Can you please ship to my new address?

Yes, please notify us via email as soon as possible and reference your order number. We will not be responsible for lost packages in the event that you fail to notify us of a change in shipping address.

I'm feeling uneasy about shipping my materials. Can you assure me that my materials are safe?

We assure you that once we receive your materials, we will take good care of them, and send you back whatever is not used to make your keepsake jewelry (except milk, which we will hold on to for six months). However, we are not responsible for loss of your package in transit. As a reminder, please do not send all you have left.

I'm having an allergic reaction to the jewelry, can I return it?

Due to the unique, personalized and handmade to order nature of keepsake jewelry, all orders are non-returnable and non-refundable, including when you get an allergic reaction to your jewelry pieces. By placing an order for jewelry on our site you acknowledge that all metals, including 14k gold, may contain metal alloys. While our jewelry is nickel free, it is still possible for the metal to contain very small, trace amounts of nickel. You acknowledge that an allergic reaction may occur to the metal alloys; however, an allergy to metals other than nickel, is rare.

I don't know my ring size/ I think my sized changed.

Please have your ring sized by a local jeweler, or purchase a suitable ring sizer. We place the order with the jeweler once you place your order and cannot change it. Finally, rings cannot be resized because the process involves extreme heat and this may cause permanent damage to the keepsake stone.

What if the courier or postal service loses my materials while on the way to you?

Shipping the materials to us is the responsibility of the buyer, and hence also at your expense. We are not liable for any loss in transit. This is partly the reason why we remind you not to send us all you have left.

I don't like how my keepsake jewelry turned out, can I return it?

Due to the unique, personalized and handmade to order nature of keepsake jewelry, all orders are non-returnable and non-refundable.
